Hello, I’m Rachel
Welcome to On the Acre. Sharing what I gather in my garden, from the harvests that fill my basket, to the dishes that fill my table. Let’s gather together.
Ten years ago, I founded Acre to be a place that a share how I use what I grow and forage to make cook and preserve.
In those ten years, I have learned so much about growing my own food, making garden-inspired dishes that are bursting with flavor, celebrating the grown ingredients to their fullest. As a new gardener, I struggled with the notion of growing and wasting anything I grew - I spent all this time tending and growing it, I want to use every part of the produce.
This desire led me into the incredible craft of natural dyes. I love to explore dyes using food waste and foraged ingredients. I grew up on five acres of woods, and finding color in the woods is near to my heart.
This past year, we moved to a new home on an acre of land. A full and beautiful acre, I still cannot believe it! When I started Acre, I was working from our quarter acre suburban lot, tucked into the corner of the yard. I loved filling this space to the very brim, using every inch available to me. I am thrilled to have a sprawling space and room to dream and play.
With more yard space, I am seeing myself drawn to gardens and events that fully envelope you. A complete escape into nature, surrounded by garden in a way that suspends time and place, just for a moment.

I started hosting dinner parties under the apple trees in my home, creating this beautiful meal that brought guests into a full experience. I had the privilege of doing two photoshoots beneath these apple trees to capture the beauty of these events - I am an art director by day, specializing in food photo and video, and am honored to play and create on the weekends with incredibly talented people.
These shoots awoke in me the desire to gather people together in the garden. I will be sharing weekly posts around this intention:
So, there you have it. I am so grateful you are here. Please follow along and subscribe, I would love to get to know you and what you are writing and reading.
