Today we changed plans. We grabbed a pack of frozen hot dogs, a can of kraut from the pantry, some cut up raw veg and headed out to our yard for a bonfire. How I love the smell of a bonfire, the taste of char on a hot dog, your face warm from the fire and your hands cold from the fall chill. We dined like kings around that fire, our perfect thrown together feast around a boisterous flame. As we rest bellies full, I gazed out across the yard, taking in the new to us garden beds and apple trees. It has honestly been overwhelming to plan and dream, seeing so much potential and so much work. It was so perfect in this moment to just take it in, envision more fruit trees here or there, the garden beds moved to this sunny hill or stay put. Nights like these make dreaming calming, make it easy.
It is time for a change of plans with Acre. As I navigate a life filled with two littles, a full time job, and a new home, My life has changed since the creation of On the Acre. It is essential for me to create more than ever before. In and amongst the daycare drop offs and photo studio days, I need moments dreaming about the garden to come, starting a new pot of dye, or jotting down recipe notes while I cook dinner. Creating and gardening is essential for well-being. It brings rest and joy in daily routines and I am feeling it more palpably. I need this space more than ever.
As I work on Acre going forward, I want it to be a place that brings you joy and rest found in growing food and creating. I will continue to share natural dye tutorials, seasonal recipes and gardening content with a focus on new garden plans on our one acre plot. I will be more intentional in sharing the balance of life and how life giving a garden space can be.
I have transitioned my blog content to Substack, please subscribe here for content going forward. I am thrilled to begin a new season of content with all of you.
Back around our fire pit, the sun sank low and we packed up and headed across the lawn, chilly now we are away from the fire. I changed our sheets to flannel, and I cannot wait to tuck into bed tonight and dream of the garden to come.
Yes, friend. Can’t wait to watch.
